Mysterious Origins

Late Night Gaming

Kwasi was always the curious one. Many years ago, his siblings—Kwell, Kori, and Kymani—were gifted a revolutionary new TechBoy console for Christmas. It came bundled with a strange game called ROM, starring its enigmatic hero, Cashewdude.

At first, it was just another holiday distraction. But Kwasi felt something deeper in the game’s code, as if it were alive, waiting.

One night, long past curfew, the four siblings huddled in the living room, the glow of the television painting their faces. Kwell, ever the tinkerer, had found a cheatcode online. He entered it once—bloop—nothing. He tried again—bloop—still nothing. Frustrated, he tossed the controller aside. But Kwasi, unwilling to let go, gave it one last attempt.

This time—BLOOP!—a portal shimmered open on the screen. Cashewdude leapt forward, bursting into their world.

The siblings gasped. On the television, Cashewdude stood inside a perfect replica of their living room. The same couch. The same flickering lamp. Even the four of them, sitting in front of the TV, were mirrored inside the game.

“How is this possible?” whispered Kori. Before anyone could answer, the screen darkened. Behind Cashewdude, a figure emerged—tall, faceless, its eyes glowing red like burning coals. The shadow stepped closer, its presence bleeding into the real room.

The siblings panicked, scattering across the living room. Kymani screamed, “Turn it off!”

Kwasi, heart pounding, lunged for the power cable.

As his fingers gripped the cord, a violent surge erupted—sparks flew, light swallowed the room, and the television shrieked with static.

Shock to the System

The siblings shielded their eyes.

When the dust settled, the console lay silent. The room was scorched with the smell of ozone.

And Kwasi was gone.
